Agriculture in Peru has been and continues to be one of the main economic activities. More than 33 million Peruvians receive food produced daily. Peru also has one of the most diverse soils and climates in the region. And it is famous for a variety of agricultural products. Agriculture in Peru has thrived despite social crises at different times in history. And it continues to be one of the engines of the national economy. According to a report by the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the agrarian reform, or El Niño of 1983, went through a critical period between the 1970s and 1980s. There, agricultural development continued to grow steadily, according to the same report. GDP growth as a percentage remained constant even at the onset of the pandemic, which affected some manufacturing sectors And this is due to “high levels of production of important products for the domestic market (potato, banana, cassava) and the external market (blueberry, cocoa, avocado)”.
Agriculture is one of the most important manufacturing industries in Peru. It is classified into different types according to method, cultivation process or environmental influences. And one of the rankings we want to share is the one made according to the method and objective of this activity. So they:
Traditional agriculture is based on ancestral knowledge and practices. It is mainly carried out by small producers engaged in family farming in rural areas. However, technological resources and productive capacity are still limited. Its main objective is self-consumption.
An industrial agriculture that operates in a more innovative and technological way. This allows it to express itself and access international markets.
Ecological, biological or organic agriculture. Taking care of good food culture and promoting responsible food consumption.
Despite the impacts and risks for agricultural production in Peru, sustainable agriculture offers opportunities for economic growth for citizens and investors, as long as everyone’s mentality adjusts to the model of this image. Society must understand that sustainable production can generate profits for several decades without representing great risks, however, these returns will not be as high as conventional production, which tends to deplete the dwindling natural resources of all Peruvians. Likewise, implementing sustainable strategies is not limited to installing drip irrigation systems but also involves minimizing the impact on the ecosystem and, as much as possible, taking care of the environment of the field to integrate them into a larger landscape unit, where flora and fauna can flourish as a whole Company. and create assets that will allow us to prosper for generations. In other words, sustainable production implies no deforestation, care for the soil and good management of agrochemical use, through the use of integrated pest management strategies and innovations in the agricultural system. It is possible if we are aware of the importance of the environment for Peru’s development.
We have developed our own management control systems for the various stages of production, storage and distribution to ensure the quality of our products is sustainable. In Commerce Peruvian International we supply all types of national and European markets with our products; a large percentage of our production goes to export.
